Ron Carlivati won't be written out as head writer of General Hospital anytime soon. The Emmy-winning scribe revealed that he's inked a new contract.

"I just signed a new contract," Carlivati shared on Twitter. "So happy to be staying with @ABCNetwork & @GeneralHospital!"

Carlivati began his work as head writer of General Hospital on January 9, 2012, after having served the previous five years atop the writing team of One Life to Live. At that time, it was widely believed that General Hospital, like One Life to Live and All My Children, would be canceled within the year. Under Carlivati and executive producer Frank Valentini, who also joined GH in 2012, General Hospital has seen its ratings soar to seven-year highs.

During Carlivati's time as head writer at OLTL, the show received four Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing Team. One Life to Live took home top writing honors in 2008. Carlivati was also nominated for five Writers Guild Awards during his OLTL tenure. Last month Carlivati added to that tally when he and the General Hospital writing team received a WGA Award nomination.
